Avesta municipality has made a significant decision to realize an extensive solar energy investment together with Recap Energy, a prominent Swedish energy company.

At the council’s meeting on May 22, it was decided to make land available to build a solar park in Horndal. Through a combination of the available land from Sveaskog and Avesta municipality, an impressive solar park will be created, which ranks among Sweden’s largest solar parks. The park will cover an area of approximately 150 hectares and have an installed capacity of 100 MW.

Recap Energy will lease the land and also lead the project to build the solar park. “For Recap Energy, which already has an extensive portfolio of green investments, this decision represents a significant milestone in that the country gets one of its largest solar parks and at the same time puts Avesta on the map for solar energy in Sweden,” comments Marco Berggren, CEO at Recap Energy .

The project conversations have been characterized by a strong ambition between the parties to industrially further develop Avesta into an interesting location for more investments,” emphasizes Christer Asplund, Senior Advisor at Recap Energy.

This investment marks the beginning of Avesta’s endeavour to develop more plots within the municipality in order to enable renewable energy solutions in the future.
